philippians4-8thinkontheseBased on Philippians 4:6-9

Almighty God, most powerful, most near, most good
I surrender my worries to you
I have asked, you will supply
I have made my needs and desires known
You will bring goodness and mercy

Thank you for your steadfast love and faithfulness
Thank you for your saving power
Thank you for grace upon grace

Your peace surpasses all need and understanding
Guard my heart with your peace
Guard my mind with your peace
Guard me now and always in Christ Jesus my Lord, the Prince of Peace.

Focus my attention and hope on your goodness, your truth, your honor, your justice. All are at work in your world.

Focus my attention and hope on your goodness, your purity, your delight, your commending. All are at work in your world.

Focus my attention and hope on your goodness, your excellence, your praise. All are it work in your world.

All are at work in me, my situation, this very moment.

Focus my attention, my power, my resources to keep doing all you show me to be right, for you are with me, God of Peace and Hope.

Focus me on your promises that I may persevere, no matter the season or situation, for the building of your kingdom and the glory of your name. Amen.

Prayer: O Lord, My Heart is Not Proud

Sunrise over sea
O Lord, my heart is not proud
I trust you and need you and honor your blessed presence

Cleanse and nurture my soul
that I may rejoice in what delights you,
see as you see, love as you love

Cleanse and nurture my soul
so my thoughts are as yours,
so I am quick to respond to your bidding

Cleanse and nurture my soul
so that I may leave this world more as you intend it to be

I place myself honestly and humbly into your care,
for you know me truly and love me completely
Amen

My time, my talents, my calling- a prayer of surrender

srrrender quoteLord, the opportunities of the world stretch before me. Many are good but only a few are best. Many could be my path in you, but far fewer actually are.

My time is a gift from you
My time is precious
My time is short

My talents are a gift from you
They can only bless and influence
when focused and deployed with purpose

My calling is a gift from you
I cannot do all things
Save me from wanting to
and trying to

I surrender it all to you
I trust you

Focus my time and talents and calling for your greatest glory. I am at peace confident in your best purposes for me. Grant me courage to step forward faithfully and leave behind faithfully. Amen

A prayer for those who have much, based on Matthew 19.23-30

i need you

Based on Matthew 19:23-30

Merciful Jesus, I recognize I have so much. In this place and time I am one of the first. Yes there’s always someone who has more, but free me from justifying with true perspective. I am one of the first – access to wealth, belongings, influence, work, medical care, food, water, education, credit, safety…

I hear your words… The first will be last, the last will be first…. It is so hard for those with much to enter the kingdom of heaven.

It is hard. It is hard for me to not miss you. So much comfort, apathy, distraction, self fulfillment. It is so easy to think I don’t need saving. It is so easy to care for only me and mine.

It is a good life now, a blessed life, but not eternal. I have so much but I need so much. I need you and your salvation. I need your truth, your way, your eternal life. I need others. Show me what to leave to have you and family 100-fold, for now and forever.

Speak Lord, I am listening…

Worship Resource- Accepting the Call

god is calling red phoneONE OR ALL SINGING:
Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore
United Methodist Hymnal #344 verse 1
Instrumental music continues during the readings and prayer

ONE:
When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:36-38)

ALL:
I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I; send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

ALL SINGING:
Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore
United Methodist Hymnal #344 verse 2, 3

ONE:
Jesus said, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8)

ALL:
Holy Spirit, you opened my ears to hear Jesus calling me to serve
You opened my step to the path now set before me
Continue to open me
Open my mind to the changes I must make
Open my mouth with your love, truth and wisdom
Open my hands to those I will partner with in service
Open my eyes to the resources, answers and grace you will provide
Open my arms to the new life I will embrace
Open my heart and fill it again and again with the courage to follow faithfully

ALL SINGING:
Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore
United Methodist Hymnal #344 verse 4

Sermon Recording: Come and See What God Has Done, an Epiphany Sermon on Trust (Matthew 2)

matthew 2 epiphany star magi homageMessage: Come and See What God Has Done, an Epiphany Sermon on Trust
Scripture: Matthew 2
Offered 1/3/16, the Sunday before Epiphany, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sarasota FL

This message was preceded by the wonderful song Noel by Chris Tomlin.

I will not let worry overrule today or this Christmas. When the King rules my world, I cease to rule or to worry. All worry dethrones God. All worrying makes me King and God incompetent. I am going to trust that in the little places, through unexpected people, His perfect story is unfolding and unwrapping all around me and in me, the light overtaking the dark.
Ann Voskamp, from her Advent resource Sticky Notes for the Soul, Day 17

By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us,
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace. —Luke 1:78-79

Pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place,
until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. —2 Peter 1:19

The closing prayer was adapted from a prayer entitled Lead Me by Steve Garnaas Holmes.
