Growing in Resilience: The Way of Peace, based on Isaiah 59.8

peace be with youGrowing in Resilience
Day 20, Read Isaiah 59
Reflection: The Way of Peace,
based on Isaiah 59:8, NRSV

The way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their paths. Their roads they have made crooked; no one who walks in them knows peace.

You
You are the Way
Your way is Peace
An unbent highway of life-giving words
Truth, Dignity, Encouragement
We will know you
We will walk in your ways

You
You are the Way
Your way is Peace
A shining path of justice
Integrity, Impartiality, Redemption
We will know you
We will walk in your ways

You
You are the Way
Your way is Peace
An unbroken road of sanctuary
Safety, Belonging, Becoming
We will know you
We will walk in your ways

Prayer: For Yours Alone (Mark 16)

speak witness good news

Based on the short ending of the Gospel of Mark, The Voice Translation
Later, Jesus himself commissioned the disciples to take the sacred and eternal message of salvation far to the East and the West.

Jesus,
Your message is sacred
Holy, Set Apart, Treasured

Your message is eternal
Timeless, Lasting, a Firm Foundation

Your message is salvation
Deliverance, Wholeness, Grace

We bow before your commission to receive and bear your message into the world

Show us when to speak and give us the words
Never for our agenda, for yours alone

Show us what to do and give us the strength
Never for our achievement, for yours alone

Show others we are from you by your power at work through us
Never for our glory, for yours alone

Your Word is a Fire (Jeremiah 20:9)

matches-heart-2

Jeremiah 20:9
If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,”
then within me there is something like a burning fire shut up in my bones;
I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.

Mighty and Mysterious One
Your word is a fire
Your word burns and burns- refining, purifying
Your word is an explosion, a bomb of truth and grace

Who am I to speak for you?
How can I bear your molten heart
these blazing bones
and not be consumed

It is such a holy place
Help me to stay with you and not turn away

Jesus, heal us- a prayer of confession based on Matthew 13.10-17

healing hand light

Based on Matthew 13:10-17

Jesus, heal us for we are hard of hearing
We do not listen, nor seek to understand
We work for our kingdom, not yours

Jesus, heal us for we have shut our eyes
We see, but we do not perceive
We look to our kingdom, not yours

Jesus, heal us for our hearts have grown dull
Blunted by apathy and distraction
We long for our kingdom, not yours

Jesus, you speak again that we might be saved
Weave your stories into the fabric of our souls
Unstop us with sacred truth
Awaken us to greater grace
Sharpen us with your light and love
that we may be fully yours and fully alive
to your kingdom, to your glory, to your mercy,
to you and your holy will. Amen

Find us and Flood us (2 Corinthians 4)

praise-and-worship-worship-danceBased on 2 Corinthians 4:7-15

The power is from you, Glorious One
An extraordinary power to persevere
and to speak

It comes to my mortality
to my frail clay
to my dust
You hold me and wash me and form me
that I may carry your power as it carries me

O the glory of your grace
Grace extending more and more
more and more to me and more and more through me to others
Your Spirit of faith and life flowing, flooding…

Find us, glorious one
Find us all for we are your treasure
Find us and raise us from the earth
that we may dance at your throne
that we may sing and shout our thanksgiving
to the honor and glory of your name forever
Amen!

voice speak sing proclaim preach

Based on Matthew 9:32-38

I am mute
No words to share
No way to be heard

Jesus, Voice of Truth
You have compassion on me
You heal me
You give me your voice and your story
Glory! Hallelujah!

We are mute
By our own choices
By the choices of others
By circumstances beyond any of us

Jesus, Voice of Grace
You have compassion on us
You heal us
You send us out with your words of grace
with your story of saving love and hope
Glory! Hallelujah!

Jesus, Voice of Hope
We return our voices to you
Use them to bring in your harvest
May everything and everyone
be healed, be held, and brought home
Field to Forever
Glory! Hallelujah!

Answer Us, a prayer based on Mark 9:14-29

mark-9-help-unbelief

Prayer based on Mark 9:14-29, Jesus healing a boy possessed by a destructive spirit

Answer us, Great God of Justice,
Lord of Hope
Bringer of Change and New Life
Have mercy
Draw near
Finish your good and generous work

Release us from
the chains of this moment, born of imprisoned years
the distractions and false calls of those who cannot help
the apathy keeping us from seeing, speaking, and caring
the smallness of your Kingdom stealing our courage to try
the slowness of your Kingdom chipping away at our enduring

We believe, help our unbelief
Raise us from our comas to stand with you
Release our petified voices
Deliver us of our demons

You have made us new
You are making us new
You are making all things new
