Our God Is… a prayer of adoration and praise

This prayer was inspired by the song Our God by Chris Tomlin.

How would you finish this sentence? Our God is…

Our God is Compassion and Love
Our God is Unending Grace and Mercy
Our God is Hope, Eternal and True
Our God is Mighty to Save
Our God is Holy
Our God is Everlasting to Everlasting
King of kings, Lord of lords,
Creator of Heaven and Earth
Our God is making all things new

Nothing can stand against our God
Nothing
No sin, no death
No evil, no injustice, no oppression
No doubt, no confusion, no need
Nothing can stand against our God
Nothing

So, God, we call on your Mighty Name
And we claim your promises
That we may stand and withstand and stand firm

Help us
Help us to stand in your truth and your grace
Help us to stand in what you name us, not what the world names us
Help us to stand in community, breaking down dividing walls
Help us to stand and withstand and stand firm

Great are You
Holy are You
Worthy are You
We love you and we honor you and we need you

Come
Come and open our ears and open our eyes and open our hearts
To your presence, your grace
Open us that we may be yours

Growing in Resilience: Nothing Can Contain You, Isaiah 66.1-2

listening-by-meganne-forbesGrowing in Resilience
Day 27, Read Isaiah 66
Reflection: Nothing Can Contain You, based on Isaiah 66:1-2, The Message

God’s Message: “Heaven’s my throne, earth is my footstool. What sort of house could you build for me? What holiday spot reserve for me? I made all this! I own all this!”

God’s Decree: “But there is something I’m looking for: a person simple and plain, reverently responsive to what I say.”

Eternal One
Magnificent and Mighty
Transcendent and Glorious
Nothing can contain You
No heart
No house
No sanctuary
No fortress
No people or plan or strategy or decree

Nothing can contain You
You need nothing
You made all that is seen and unseen
All is yours

Nothing can contain You
You are Whole
Complete

Yet, You desire something
You are looking for something
For someone
Someone real, plain, humble
Someone faith-full, hope-full
Trembling with awe and anticipation
Reverent and ready

Speak Lord, your beloved, your servant, is listening

Prayer- Something Greater (Matthew 12)

Jesus-CREATION-montage_artBased on Matthew 12:1-8

Something greater than the temple is here
Greater than rules, resolutions, clergy

Something greater than the temple is here
Greater than strategies, programs, campaigns

Something greater than the temple is here
Greater than institutions, boards, buildings

You are here, Son of man
Lord of the Sabbath
Lord of all

You are here, offering yourself
Have mercy on us that we may be mercy
Extend grace to us that we may be grace
Pour out your love upon us
that we may be your love and fully yours
Amen

Sermon Recording- Unlimited Blessing (Genesis 27)

Jacob Sermon Series

Sermon Series – Jacob, Punk to Patriarch
Jacob’s journey to faith and accepting his place in God’s plan is full of schemes, betrayal, and family dysfunction. Yet, in the midst of the mess, God remains steadfast- offering relationship, provision, purpose, and new life. In Jacob’s story, we see our own mess and God’s saving grace for us as well.

Message: Unlimited Blessing
Scriptures: Genesis 27:1-38
Offered 9/04/16 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sarasota Florida

There is a pathos in this text, for the sons as well as for the father. It lies in the awareness that nobody wants to live a life that is unblessed. Nobody wants a life without the special words and gestures that bind that life to a precious past and a promised future.
Walter Brueggemann from his commentary on Genesis

This message also references the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-12), Psalm 103:1-5, and Ephesians 1:3-14
