Midweek Devotion- Psalm 147

Scripture: Psalm 147:1-11, NRSV

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Text: Robert Robinson, 1735-1790
Music: Wyeth’s Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second
Public Domain
1. Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.

2. Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I’m come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.

3. O to grace how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

Breath Prayer:
IN- Let Thy goodness, like a fetter
OUT- Bind my wandering heart to Thee

Advent Photo-A-Day: Day 9, Delight

DSC_0188The thought behind the photo:
My beloved Ed- a man of honor and grace and joy.
You’ve brought healing and delight to my life.
Blessing upon blessing.
Love upon love.

SCRIPTURE: Philippians 1:3-5 NRSV
I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now.

The December 9, 2013 devotion from http://umrethinkchurch.tumblr.com
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 11:3-5 CEB
He will delight in fearing the Lord. He won’t judge by appearances, nor decide by hearsay. He will judge the needy with righteousness, and decide with equity for those who suffer in the land. He will strike the land with the rod of his mouth; by the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. Righteousness will be the belt around his hips, and faithfulness the belt around his waist.

Can you imagine what Isaiah’s readers were thinking when they read this? Finally, a ruler with the desires they had hoped in a coming king. One who was devoted to God. One who paid special care to those who suffered. A leader who was equitable and just.

What delights our hearts today? What is it we long for in this season of waiting?
