The thought behind the photo:
This year, our congregation’s Christmas play was A Charlie Brown Christmas. The production was wonderful, especially their version of the classic Peanuts dance of joy.

SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 31:12-13 NIV
They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD– the grain, the new wine and the oil, the young of the flocks and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more. Then maidens will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 30:11-12 NRSV
You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

The December 15, 2013 devotion from
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 35:1-3, CEB
The desert and the dry land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom like the crocus. They will burst into bloom, and rejoice with joy and singing. They will receive the glory of Lebanon, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon. They will see the Lord’s glory, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, and support the unsteady knees.

All of creation rejoices together in the work of reconciliation, that even the desert and dry land are glad. What a beautiful reminder that God’s grace extends to all of the created order.

In the midst of desolation, God creates a way in the desert for new life to spring up.

Thank you Rethink Church for a great way to make preparing for Christmas more meaningful. Join me and thousands more in setting aside time to reflect, focus, and literally picture the deep themes of Jesus’ birth.
