John Day 11: Bread of Life

I am the Bread of Life by Kennedy A Paizs. “I want to desire Jesus as much as I desire to eat each day to sustain my physical life.”

Gospel of John Reading PLan
Day 11 Reading:
John 6:22-59

Bringing the Word to Life
If you are medically able, eat nothing but bread and water for breakfast and lunch.

Pastor Lisa’s Journal
Scripture
Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. – John 6:26 (NRSV)

Observation
The crowds are following Jesus because he is feeding them, literally. The miracles Jesus performs are signs to point the people to God and the truth of who he is, the Messiah. When he begins to speak with them about who he is and his desire for them to believe they are troubled. Could it be that all the people really want are more freebies?

Application
Out of great love and mercy, God provides for our needs. Yet it is far from right to expect God to only be a cosmic concierge, vending machine, or ATM. It is so easy to lose sight of the Blesser while focusing on the blessing! The Person while focusing on the perks!

Prayer
Precious Jesus, you offer me yourself. Not a philosophy to follow. Not a commodity to utilize. You offer me you- flesh, blood, soul and spirit. Forgive my shallow desires. They dishonor and cheapen what you impart. Show me how to accept your great gift, every part. Show me how to give myself to you in return, every part, so we may abide together now and forever. Amen.
